From Mom to Game Developer: The Story Behind Fear in the Facts Farms

Hi there! šŸ‘‹ I’m Nadia, a mom, a project manager, and nowā€”believe it or notā€”a game developer! šŸŽ® If youā€™re reading this, you might already know a little about the game Iā€™ve been working on in my free time: Fear in the Facts Farms. But I wanted to take this opportunity to dive deeper into how and why I created this game, and how my kids inspired every step of the journey.

Why I Started Creating Games

It all started with my kids’ love for Roblox. Like so many parents, I watched my children get totally immersed in video games, and I realized how powerful games can be in teaching and engaging them. When we planned a Roblox-themed birthday party for my son, I created a small puzzle game in Roblox for the guests. I didnā€™t know it at the time, but that little project sparked something big in me! šŸ”„

The process of creating games was so rewarding that I couldnā€™t stop there. I made a few more simple Roblox games, and before long, I wanted to challenge myself with something more ambitious: a standalone game that kids could enjoy while also learning something valuable.

The Idea Behind Fear in the Facts Farms

Iā€™ve always believed that learning can and should be fun, and thatā€™s exactly what I wanted to achieve with Fear in the Facts Farms. šŸŒ¾ In the game, kids explore a farm, talk to the workers, and learn interesting facts about farming during the day. But once night falls, the farm becomes haunted, and the workers turn into ghosts! šŸ‘»

Itā€™s a combination of fun, fast-paced gameplay and educational content. The kids have to run from ghosts and throw pumpkins to defend themselves while also learning facts and answering questions. Itā€™s a game where they can enjoy themselves while picking up knowledge without even realizing it!

My Kids, My Inspiration

My twins have been my biggest supporters throughout this whole process. My son, whoā€™s obsessed with Roblox, loves the action-packed pumpkin fights in the game. šŸŽƒ Meanwhile, my daughter enjoys exploring the farm and answering the trivia questions to collect ā€œfortune clovers,ā€ which are rewards in the game.

Seeing how much fun they have while playing Fear in the Facts Farms has been the greatest motivation for me. This game was made with them in mind, but I truly believe it can bring the same joy to other kids too!

Balancing Mom Life and Game Development

You might be wondering, how do you find the time? Well, itā€™s not easy, Iā€™ll admit! šŸ˜… Between my full-time job as a project manager in a big corporation and being a mom, time is tight. But thatā€™s what makes working on this game even more specialā€”itā€™s something I carve out time for because Iā€™m passionate about it.

Creating Fear in the Facts Farms has been a way for me to combine my love for my kids with my love for learning and technology. Plus, itā€™s given me a creative outlet that I didnā€™t know I needed. āœØ

Whatā€™s Next?

Fear in the Facts Farms is just the beginning. Iā€™m already thinking about what I can do next, whether itā€™s expanding this game or creating new ones that continue to blend fun and learning in unique ways. šŸ’”
